How Do Inverters work?
An Excelsior Power inverter is an electronic device that converts electrical DC ( direct current ) power form a battery , like a 12 volt,24 volt or 48 volt storage battery, to a higher voltage and AC ( alternating current ) to run normal AC appliances as used in mains appliances like household and commercial equipment.
This is achieved by using transistors to convert the incoming DC voltage to a high frequency ( say 20 thousand cycles per second , 20 Khz )AC voltage.
Then the AC voltage ( say 12 volts ) is then fed into an electrical transformer to increase the voltage to the voltage required by domestic mains operated devices, say 240 volts
The high frequency high voltage power is too high a frequency to run normal mains appliances ( normally 50 Hz or cycles per second).
To change the high frequency AC voltage to low AC frequency 50 Hz voltage, the power is then converter to high voltage DC ( Direct Current ) by diodes to rectify to DC.
The rectified DC voltage is then smoothed out using an electrical choke and large Capacitors.
Then the smooth DC voltage is fed into a set of transistors to create a nice clean 50 Hz AC pure sine wave voltage and cleaned from noise with a small capacitor and electrical Choke.
